This week marks National Travel and Tourism Week and people are talking about travel in Baytown.
Fresh off of winning three Texas Travel Awards, Baytown is joining the annual celebration recognizing the contributions of the U.S. travel industry. Did you know tourism plays a crucial role in economic growth and innovation locally?
Sheree Cardwell, Marketing Coordinator for the City of Baytown, said, “Travel is at the heart of Baytown, powering a strong local economy, creating jobs, and strengthening our community’s culture and identity.”
The proof is truly in the numbers. The travel industry brought in $2.6 trillion in economic output in 2022 and supported 15 million jobs. In Baytown alone, the travel industry has brought in $10.5 million in local taxes and has supported 1,600 jobs. This helps working families, small businesses, and more.
Travel spending hit nearly $160 billion in federal, state, and local taxes in 2022. This revenue saves each American household an average of $1,270 in taxes. In 2022, Baytown businesses earned more than $75 million from travelers spending their hard-earned money in our community.
This year’s theme for National Travel and Tourism Week is #TravelForward.
U.S. Travel Association President and CEO Geoff Freeman said, “This week is a prime opportunity to elevate the message that travel is essential to moving America’s economy forward.”
The City of Baytown is traveling forward by partnering with local businesses and event holders in marketing efforts through our City’s Tourism Division.
Sheree said, “We are proud to celebrate all that travel does for our community now and into the future.”
