[ARCHIVED] Art Alley Profile: Shelbi Nicole

Art Alley Artist Shelbi Nicole

Now that details about the new Art Alley have been released, it’s time to meet the artists who are playing major roles in the art installation.

Shelbi Nicole, a Houston-based artist and designer, loves creating public art and is excited to bring her talents to Baytown’s Art Alley.

She said, “Public art activates imagination and inspires people to experience something that they may not see every day.”

Shelbi started like many artists did, through creations in elementary and high school. It wasn’t until Shelbi was in her 20’s that she discovered her true calling.

She said, “I started finally showing my work publicly and started working with different galleries that morphed into my design business and painting murals.”

She added, “Art initially served as a way for me to get to know myself and express myself. Now I would go as far as to say it’s crucial to my mental health and well-being. It is such a gift to create for a living and one of the most important aspects of my life. Art means purpose to me.”

Shelbi has been creating and selling art for 15 years now, with working being displayed and purchased in prominent places like Paris and London. Now she’s showcasing her creativity in Baytown.

“I am creating five unique murals with some inspirational/fun messaging and my signature abstract shapes,” Shelbi said.

When it comes to the payoff for this project, Shelbi says it’s to be an inspiration to others.

She said, “I want to encourage people to experience the art and the impact the playful color pairings/abstract imagery can have on them. Moreover, I want to inspire people. I am going to put my all into these murals, so Baytown residents and guests have a beautiful inspirational place in the community to visit.”

Shelbi will begin her murals in Art Alley on May 1 and the big reveal will take place May 7. To see more of her work, visit shelbinicole.com or find her social media pages.
