In honor of Women’s History Month, the City of Baytown recognizes the women who have proudly served our community on city council. District 2 Councilwoman Sarah Graham added her name to a plaque outside of city hall that honors every councilwoman in the Baytown’s history. Velma J. Ansley-Nelson was the first woman on council and served from 1960-1964. Mary Elizabeth Wilbanks, Eileen Caffey, Eva Benavides, Sheryl Ward, Lena Yepez, along with current councilwomen Laura Alvarado, Heather Betancourth, and Sarah Graham join Mrs. Ansley-Nelson on the list.
Thank you to these women for serving our community and those will follow them in the future.
