[ARCHIVED] Animal Services & Adoption Center Opens

Animal Shelter Ribbon cutting

Our four-legged friends have a new place to be cared for as they await new, loving homes. Two years after breaking ground, the City of Baytown has officially opened its new Animal Services and Adoption Shelter.

Friends of the shelter joined Mayor Brandon Capetillo, Health Director Tony Gray and other City officials for the facility’s ribbon cutting. At 14,034 square feet, the shelter provides enough space for more than 60 dog kennels and almost 80 cat suites.

Gray said, “It more than doubles the size of the old building.”

Several highlights of the facility include an expansive veterinary services wing and the friendly “get to know your furry friend” areas.

The City’s goal is to be a no-kill shelter and the new Animal Services and Adoption Shelter is another step closer to making that happen.

City Manager Rick Davis said, “This is what the community wants and fully supports.”

Mayor Capetillo agreed and said while it has taken some time to get to this point, “we are proud to be able to provide quality services for these animals as they find loving homes.”
