Pirates Bay Schedule Change
Pirates Bay is changing its schedule for the rest of this season due to a lifeguard shortage impacting waterparks across the state and country.
The waterpark will be closed Mondays and Tuesdays for the remainder of this season.
Clifford Hatch, Director of Parks and Recreation said, “The safety of your family and park staff is the most important thing to us and we have to continue our commitment to the community to have a safely-monitored waterpark.”
The Aquatics team started the season with 118 lifeguards, but that number continues to drop. When you compare to 2021, the park had 153 lifeguards. Before COVID-19, there were more than 180. The schedule was changed in order to accommodate these trends while providing a safe experience at Pirates Bay.
Aquatics Superintendent Jenna Stevenson added, “Our lifeguards are working long hours to make up for the shortages. We are doing this to give them the rest they need while providing the best service possible to our guests.”
The Buddy Pass Mondays will move to both Wednesdays and Thursdays to give season passholders two days to utilize the buddy passes instead of one day. Weekday pass holders will move from Monday-Thursday to Wednesday-Friday. This will be the first time that weekday passholders have had the Friday option. Special Pirates Nights, Itty Bitty Beach Parties, Pirate Party Nights, and swim lessons will continue as scheduled. Calypso Cove will remain open as regularly scheduled.
