Baytown’s 4th of July Celebration kicks off on Sunday, with two days of free, live entertainment. Vanilla Ice headlines the show on July 3rd. However, it’s going to be a family affair on the 4th as The Band Perry takes the main stage.
Kimberly, along with brothers Neil and Reid, make up The Band Perry. If you haven’t been to one of their shows, get ready for some family fun.
Kimberly said, “This is one of our favorite family holidays. We definitely wanted to book something this year for the holiday and we’re just really excited.”
While the trio is not from Texas, they always enjoy coming to the Lone Star State whether it’s to play a gig or visit family.
Kimberly said, “I feel like our Texas shows are always our favorites. You know, we've done the Houston rodeo many times now. The last time we were in the area we played the House of Blues.”
She added, “Our grandparents when we were growing up, lived in Houston. Our grandfather had a gas station, right in town. So, we would always come and stay with them and he would let me work the front counter at the gas station. We have a lot of summer memories.”
Kimberly and her brothers hope to make more memories Monday night before a large crowd. What can you expect from the show? Well, it’s better to expect the unexpected.
She said, “The show is full energy. I used to wear a Fitbit on stage and clocked six miles in a 75-minute set. A big portion of our set we encourage sing alongs with the crowd. We play all of the hits that everybody’s heard from us on the radio.”
They also like playing a few covers that fans say will blow you away.
Kimberly said, “We have one medley where we play a little bit of ‘Mamma’s Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys,’ ‘Where Have All the Cowboys Gone?’ and ‘Cowboy Take Me Away.’
We don’t want to give it all away but if you like rock, there’s something for you as well.
“Neil actually does a rendition of ‘Champagne Supernova.’ We try to keep it really familiar with the songs that everyone loves from The Band Perry and a couple universal favorites as well,” she said.
The band is only playing a limited number of shows this year and this is the only show in Texas. Kimberly said that’s in part because they have been hard at work in the studio.
She said, “We’ve been writing in Nashville a ton, really since the beginning of Covid. We are working on some new country music. There’s not a set release date yet, that I can share, but we are working on it.”
The bands are ready and so are the fans. So, come out to Bicentennial Park both nights for some great entertainment. You’re encouraged to arrive early on both days to beat the crowd. For more information, go to The City of Baytown’s website or check the City’s social media pages for updates.
