The young people of Baytown will one day be leaders of our strong and innovative community. Why not give them the experiences now that will set them up for success in the future? That’s where the Youth Advisory Commission, or YAC, comes in. It was created to give teens a hands-on experience while letting them see their local government in action.
Mayor Brandon Capetillo joined the 25 participants of the 2021-2022 Youth Advisory Commission at a recent City Council meeting to honor their completion of the program. These students had the opportunity to meet with city leaders and other city employees. They also had the opportunity to help plan an event with the Parks and Recreation Department, while assisting with the planning process of the 2040 Comprehensive Plan and the 2025 Imagine Baytown Strategic Plan.
Mayor Capetillo said, “When I look at these teens, I see our community’s bright future. They will be our city and business leaders. It’s great we have a program like this to educate these youth leaders on how a city operates and show them how valuable community involvement is as part of the municipal government process.”
He added, “I look forward to these YAC members taking our seats on City Council one day.”
Congratulations to all of the participants for their hard work through the program. Interested in being part of the next Youth Advisory Commission? Click here for more information.
