City Council Shows Lee College Men’s Basketball Team Some Love

At the recent City Council meeting, Mayor Brandon Capetillo declared April 15th as Lee College Men’s Basketball Day. Mayor Capetillo presented Head Coach Nicholas Wade, and his team, with a basketball signed by Baytown’s City Council.

This season was about records for the Running Rebels. The team ended this season with 27 wins, including an 18-game win streak. The Lee College men also had the highest ranking at #14 in the National Junior College Athletic Association. The Running Rebels won the first South Zone Championship in school history and earned an invite to the National Tournament.

While the team collected a lot of wins this season, they also collected several honors. Coach Wade was named Region 14 South Zone Coach of the Year. Sophomore Kyron Gibson was selected as an All- American, while Gibson and Sophomore Chance Brown were chosen for the 1st All-Region team. Sophomore Darius Smith and Freshman Mario Whitley were chosen for the 2nd All-Region team.

Lee College President Dr. Lynda Villanueva, the Lee College Board of Regents, Coach Wade and the entire team joined the Baytown City Council in honoring this historic season for Running Rebels Basketball. It was their countless hours of hard work and dedication, on the court and in the classroom, that made this season so successful.
