[ARCHIVED] New Sculpture Trail Brings Excitement and Culture

Public Art Sculptures

Walking down Texas Avenue has been transformed into the latest art display in Baytown. The Sculpture Trail is a mix of 20 unique statues, featuring artists from across the country and Canada, who drove thousands of miles to bring their artwork to Town Square.

Plans for the trail had been in the works for more than a year and attracted a lot of interest from artists. The Baytown Arts, Culture and Entertainment District Board, as well as consultants, had the difficult job of deciding which 20 sculptures would be a part of the display. ACE District President Dr. Yvonne Thomas is excited for everyone to see the trail. She said, “I know that people are going to love it.”

Artist Lee Leuning, brought his two pieces from South Dakota and said he loves the location and idea of an art trail. He said, “We have never been this far south but we think the sculpture trail is a great idea. It worked well in South Dakota and it can do the same here.”

The idea originated in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Consultant Jim Clark created the walk. He said, “No one went downtown, especially at night. There was nothing to do. We came up with the idea of the sculpture walk, it caught on, and it helped transformed the area. Now it’s a bustling downtown.”

The plan is for new works to be included each year, so the view will always change. You can actually own these one-a-kind creations. They are for sale or lease. You will also have the chance to vote on your favorite piece while you’re there. For maps and other information, contact the ACE District at 281-810-2990
