Corporal Monica Summersill

For three decades, Corporal Summersill has been a steadfast presence within the Baytown Police Department, embodying a deep commitment to service, leadership, and professional excellence. Since joining on January 28, 1995, she has dedicated herself to enhancing the safety and strength of her community, now serving as a Training Instructor in the Baytown Police Academy’s Training Division.

With an Associate of Science Degree in Criminal Justice and a wealth of certifications, Corporal Summersill has become a respected authority in law enforcement training. Her qualifications include TCOLE Master Peace Officer, TCOLE Instructor, and TCOLE Firearms Instructor certifications, as well as her expertise in critical instruction areas such as Use of Force, Defensive Tactics, Critical Incident Response, and Crime Prevention.

Corporal Summersill’s career reflects a remarkable breadth of experience. She began in the Patrol Division, advancing to roles that required strategic problem-solving and specialized skill, including Field Training Officer, the Special Ops - Target Offenders Unit, and Hot Spot Unit Corporal. For eight years, she led the Hot Spot Unit, guiding it to success with her innovative leadership.

As an instructor, her passion for mentorship and skill-building has shaped countless officers. From training courses on Officer Survival to High-Risk Encounters, she has imparted essential knowledge and techniques to prepare officers for the challenges they face. She holds numerous certifications on firearms usage which further underscore her technical expertise, while her roles as a Background Investigator, Oral Interview Board Member, and Training Committee Member reflect her commitment to fostering excellence at all levels of the department.

Corporal Summersill’s extraordinary career has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Life Saving Award, Commander’s Award of Excellence, and Chief’s Unit Citation, among others. 

Corporal Summersill’s work continues to inspire the next generation of officers, ensuring the values of professionalism, integrity, and community engagement remain at the heart of the department’s mission. Thank you for 30 years of service!
