Get Outside

Hidden just 25 minutes east of Houston is a place most people don’t even realize exists in Baytown. This 500-acre peninsula with 7 miles of trail is a quiet stretch of shoreline and trails surrounded by water views of the bays, where nature takes the lead. It’s a place for birding, fishing, kayaking, biking, hiking, running, playing, photographing, geocaching, watching the scenery, or simply slowing down to take it all in.

Reset at the Baytown Nature Center. Located at 6213 Bayway Dr, Baytown, TX 77520.

Hours of Operation

Open daily year-round except Christmas, Thanksgiving, and during extreme inclement weather. Gates open 30 minutes before sunrise and close 30 minutes after sunset.

Daily Admission Cost

Adults (13+) – $4; Children (5–12) & Seniors (65+) – $1

2026 Scheduled Activities

  • February 14 – The Great Backyard Bird Count: Made for beginners and families to learn about birding 
  • February 28 – Run For Your Wildlife: Annual 1K and 5K trail run 
  • March 28 – Trash Bash: One of the sites for the largest single-day waterway cleanup in Texas 
  • March 28 – Party on the Peninsula: Live music, food trucks, and dancing surrounded by water views May 16 – Wild Wheels: A family-focused group bike ride through the nature trails 
  • October 10 – Nurture Nature Festival: A huge annual event offering a small taste of the great outdoors, with activities, food, stage shows, live animals, and exhibit tables 
  • Summer Camps: For students in grades 1–10, held annually June through August 
  • Full Moon Hike: Adult-focused guided night hike (monthly) 
  • Evening Explorers: Kid-friendly night hike (monthly) 
  • Bird Counting: For all levels, beginner to advanced (monthly) 
  • Tyke Hike: Toddler time (monthly in fall and spring)
