Media Lab Policy

Media Lab Guidelines

The purpose of the Sterling Library Digital Media Lab is to provide the community with an opportunity to make their designs and creations real, and to foster creativity and learning. We view the Media Lab and the 3D printer as helping to fulfill our larger mission of providing access to public computing and instruction in existing and emerging technologies.

Media Lab Availability

• The lab will only be open for users at designated times established by Media Lab staff. The lab is intended for users age 12 and above who are working on or have a curiosity about specialized digital media projects that specifically require the equipment available in the lab.
• The Lab cannot be reserved for exclusive use by individuals or groups.
• Lab equipment is not available to the public for independent use.

Media Lab Rules

• Food and drink are not permitted in the Media Lab at any time.
• Cell phone conversations are not allowed in the Media Lab. Cell phones must be set to silent. Customers using the Media Lab portion of the Media Lab for audio projects must use headphones. Head phone volume must be such that other customers will not be disturbed.
• The Lab can accommodate a maximum of 6 people. Library staff are not responsible for troubleshooting personal equipment brought into the Lab.
• Saving work on Media Lab computers is prohibited. Users must save their work on an external memory source. The Library is not responsible for any work that is unsaved, corrupted, or altered in the Media Lab.
• Media Lab users may not install or download software or upgrades. For help or to suggest software, downloads and upgrades, please see Media Lab Staff.
