Goose Creek Stream Project
In 1990, the City of Baytown formed the Goose Creek Stream Development Committee, which aimed to restore one of the city’s most neglected treasures. Over the years, Goose Creek, which feeds into one of Baytown’s six bays, had been treated as a dumping ground. The committee envisioned a creek complete with trails and scenic overlooks, designed to “provide areas of natural and designed beauty, points of historical significance, and limited development that will allow users access to the stream.”
This ongoing project currently encompasses 112 acres around Goose Creek. When complete, it will feature more than seven miles of bicycle-pedestrian trails. To date, three parks have been developed or renovated. The project features eight fishing piers and two overlooks. In addition, there are numerous sports fields, picnic shelters and playgrounds.
