The City of Baytown

 The City of Baytown will hold a series of public workshops throughout the community to provide information and seek input concerning a new city zoning map.

 In February, the City Council adopted new zoning regulations that will replace current regulations in the City’s Code of Ordinances. A committee of Baytown residents spent two years developing the recommendations on the new zoning regulations.

Although the City has adopted the revised regulations, the new zoning code will not take effect until after the entire city has been remapped / rezoned. The current plan is to complete the remapping process by February 2013.

In order to create a focused forum for property owners to participate, the city has been divided into sub-areas. At present, proposed zoning has been drafted for two sub-areas, Area 1 and Area 2.  Area 1 included the westernmost section of the city, generally south of Decker Drive along Bayway Drive. Meetings were held in Area 1 and more may be planned in the future.  Area 2 is generally east of Wade Road, northeast of Decker Drive, north of SH 146, and south of Wallisville Road, spanning Garth Road to North Main Street.   Two public meetings are scheduled to seek input on the rezoning of Area 2.

Residents and business owners in Area 2 are invited to attend one of the public workshops held in their area.  The first will be held on Monday, August 20, from 6 - 7:30 p.m. in the Victoria Walker Elementary School (4711 Seabird Street) Gymnasium.    The second public workshop will be held on Thursday, August 30, from 6 - 7:30 p.m. in the Alamo Elementary School (302 YMCA Drive) Gymnasium.  City staff will be available to answer questions and provide information on the proposed zoning map for Area 2. Residents and business owners will have the ability determine both the current and proposed zoning category for their property. Staff will also have detailed information on the various zoning districts.
