Your old cell phone could save a life
The Baytown Police Department has recently partnered with Secure the Call, a non-profit agency that provides refurbished cell phones to individuals who may need to summon emergency help, but do not have a cell phone to do so. The phones will be distributed by the Police Department Domestic Violence/Victim Services Unit. Eligible candidates are Senior Citizens and people seeking or possessing Orders of Protection. Individuals may use the phones to dial 911 only, and will not be able to receive incoming calls. This service is provided free of charge. Anyone interested in participating or enrolling someone in the program may contact the Victim Services Unit at 281-425-1050.
As a part of this program, the Police Department will be collecting used cell phones in order to be refurbished and distributed. Donation barrels will be located at the Police Department at 3200 North Main St. (map), the Community Services Bureau at 220 West Defee St. (map), and at the Baytown Municipal Library (map). Thanks in advance to all those who donate and help make this program a success.
